Mwache Junction – Tsunza – Mteza
Scope of the Project
  1. Site clearance and setting out;
  2. Topsoil removal
  3. Construction of earthworks;
  4. Construction of pipe culverts, Box culverts, headwalls to culverts and improvement of other drainage and soil erosion protection works.
  5. Construction of 3 bridges: Mwache Bridge, Tsunza viaduct and Mteza Bridge. vii) Construction of Tsunza U-turn Bay (Km 8+300).
  6. Accommodation of traffic crossing through the works;
  7. Gravelling of detours, deviations,
  8. Construction of improved sub-grade
  9. Construction of pavements layers comprising of 175mm cement bound Graded Crushed Stone (GCS)

 

Description of the Project

The new road will consist of a dual carriageway starting from the Mwache interchange, 4km from the A109 road and 5km from the New Container terminal at Kipevu, Mombasa Port. The road runs in a southerly direction from the Mwache interchange for 4.0km crossing the Mwache Creek and going through Tsunza peninsula before turning eastwards across the Mteza Creek.

Mombasa – Mtwapa – Kilifi

Scope of the Project

The proposed works involve construction of a dual carriageway with Service Lanes, Grade Separated Interchanges and Non-Motorized traffic facilities from Nyali Bridge to the start of Mtwapa Bridge (13.5km – Lot 1) and also improvement of the single carriageway to dual carriageway upto Kwa Kadzengo (7km) and expansion of the single carriage for the remaining section upto Kilifi (40.4Km – Lot 2).

Athi River – Machakos Turnoff

Scope of the Project

The works generally consist of the construction of approximately 20km of the second carriageway between Athi River and Machakos Turnoff with the following major components:

  1. Earthworks comprised mainly of medium height embankment construction, excavation and backfilling for unsuitable material.
  2. Provision of new box and pipe culverts with appropriate inlet and outlet features and
  3. Scour protection works.
  4. Construction of 2 new river bridges (Athi and Stony Athi).
  5. Construction of 3 new interchange bridges.
  6. Construction of 3 new pedestrian footbridges.
  7. Construction of Road Pavement to Bituminous layers.
  8. Road furniture, road markings and other miscellaneous works.
  9. Street lighting.Rectification of defects affecting completed road for a period of 12 months.

 

Description of the Project

The project road is a section of the A8 (formerly A109) national highway in Kenya. Generally, the Project is construction of the second carriageway of the Athi River – Machakos Turnoff Section of Nairobi – Mombasa Road (A8).

It is situated in Machakos County in the Eastern Province of Kenya. The project road lies between the urban centres of Athi River and Machakos Turnoff (Kyumvi).

Nairobi Western Bypass

Scope of the Project

  1. Construction of dual carriageway with a length of 15.358 kilometres and approximately 17.31 kilometres Service roads.
  2. Construction of interchanges.
  3. Construction of fly-over crossing.

Description of the Project

The project is funded by the Government of Kenya (China Exim Bank).

The Western Bypass starts at Gitaru connecting to the Southern Bypass, passing through Wangige, Ndenderu, and terminating at Ruaka which connects to the Northern Bypass.

It covers 15.3km on the main carriageway and 17km committed to service roads.

The physical progress is 55.4%.

Nairobi Expressway

Scope of the Project

  1. Length: 27.1 km.
  2. Roadbed Section: 18.2 km, Mlolongo to Southern Bypass; Westlands to James Gichuru.
  3. Elevated Section: 8.9 km (main road), Southern Bypass to Westlands.
  4. No. of Lanes: 4 lane dual carriageway; 6 lane dual carriageway from Eastern Bypass to Southern Bypass Section; 8 lane dual carriageway from Toll Station of main lane to James Gichuru Section.

Description of the Project

Constructed under the Public Private Partnership (PPP).

The Nairobi Expressway is a key section of the Northern Corridor which provides passage to 85% of cargo destined for the neighboring landlocked countries.

The physical progress is 33%.

Naivasha – Njabini (C67) Road Project

Scope of the Project

  1. The project is located in Nakuru and Nyandarua Counties, South Rift Region of Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA).
  2. The main works are located along the 19.9km Kinamba – Githioro (C67) Road which is to be newly constructed.
  3. However, there are additional works under the Contract that covers the rehabilitation of 3.2km Naivasha – C67/A104 Junction, as well as the repair and rehabilitation of the 4.2km section of C67/A104 Junction – Kinamba Road.

 

Description of the Project

The project is funded by Government of Kenya (GoK) – (Development Vote).The Employer is Director General (KeNHA).The contractor being  M/s Victoria Engineering Co.Ltd.

Award date was 30th of December 2019 and date of Commencement being 19th March, 2020.Construction Period of 30 Months and date of Completion being 18th of September, 2022.

Mombasa – Mariakani (A109) Highway project Lot 1: Dualling of the Mombasa – Kwa Jomvu (A109) Section.

Scope of the Project

  1. Reconstruction of existing pavement with Continuous Reinforced Concrete (CRCP) on The LHS and Stone Mastic Asphalt Concrete (SMA) on the RHS.
  2. Construction of 3 new interchanges with overpasses, underpasses and slip roads.
  3. Widening existing 4 lane and 2 lane carriageways to 6 lane dual carriageway.
  4. Provision of side drains and new drainage structures (Pipe culverts, box culverts).
  5. Installation of kerbs and street lighting, installation of road furniture including road markings and traffic light and provision of median and plantation.
  6. 12 months DLP and 60 months’ maintenance.
  7. Relocation of services, as necessary.

Description of the Project

The project is funded by African Development Bank (AfDB) with the Employer being Government of the Republic of Kenya.

Implementing Agency is the Kenya National Highways Authority and the Contractor is The Third Engineering Bureau of China City Construction Group Co., Ltd. (CCCC).

The Project Award date is 23rd of Sept, 2016 with the Commencement date being 4th of February, 2017 and Completion date is 29th of October 2021.

Progress of works to date is 90.46%.
