Media Tour of Kisii - Ahero Road
Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) on 2nd of April took the media on a tour of the Kisii – Ahero Road. The road is a section of the Isebania – Ahero (A1) Road measuring 84 kilometers, and starts at Kisii and terminates just before the Ahero Junction. The 9.4 billion project was awarded to The Third Engineering Bureau of China City Construction Group Co. Ltd and is scheduled to be completed in 48 months. The project is jointly funded by African Development Fund (ADF) and the Government of Kenya (GOK) and seeks to rehabilitate the existing road from the current 5-6m to a 7m wide carriageway with 2m shoulders on either side to reduce traffic friction.
The project also includes: pavement reconstruction, construction of feeder roads, market loop roads and provision of roadside amenities, box culverts, footbridges, walkways and access roads, and pedestrian underpasses. The media tour started in Kisumu at Ahero Interchange then proceeded to Nyabondo - Oyugis - Kendubay Bridge - Oyugis - Rodi Kopani and finally at Nyakoe. While at Nyabondo, the media team visited the ongoing construction of a trauma center at St. Joseph Nyabondo hospital which is being implemented through the project to improve healthcare among the community.
